Endless Acres: Agriculture, Hunting and More

Given the relative closeness of our two offices, the terrain in the areas we serve is quite similar. There’s plenty of tillable land with sandy loam soil, as well as seemingly endless acres of flat, open land with native grasses, brush, scattered trees and sand hills.

But the more you look, features such as deep draws stand out in the Texas red dirt, along with scattered wet season playa lakes. Northward in Hall County, you’ll start to see more rugged terrain with rolling uplands, and even cliffs and canyons. The rivers and creeks absent a little farther south are numerous here by comparison.

The geography of Northwest Texas makes for some ideal farm and ranch properties. Agriculture dominates the Panhandle and the High Plains region, with crops such as cotton, wheat and sorghum growing everywhere. Beef cattle and hog farms are also common.

Where there’s this much ag land, you’re bound to find abundant wildlife … and excellent hunting. Mule deer, whitetail, javelina, wild turkey, duck, dove and several other game birds are prevalent here. The concept of a “multi-use property,” i.e., one for farming, livestock grazing, recreation, hunting and more is truly made for regions like these.
